Job Description

Our Client is a biotech company developing next generation antibody-based therapeutics using cutting-edge synthetic biology to massively broaden the targets and therapy areas that can benefit from biological drugs. As the company enters its next phase following the appointment of a new CEO last year the company is seeking to hire a new Director of Business Development.

The business model is changing from one where the libraries were out-licensed to pharma enabling them to prosecute in-house antibody discovery campaigns, to a partnership arrangement where the company receives research fees to conduct antibody discovery campaigns based on its proprietary synthetic antibody libraries. The corresponding licence deals are structured to include success fees, milestones and royalties to recognise the value generated downstream by working collaboratively.

Thus, the new Director of Business Development will now be entering licensing discussions with a broader customer base and structuring more complex collaborative deals. As part of the senior leadership team, the BD Director will play a key role in establishing the company as a leading biotech through the execution of deals that further the company’s strategic goals.

This is a replacement role and reports to CEO to effectively drive the company’s future commercial success. The role is based at the company’s facilities in Cambridge, with some flexibility for home working. The company currently employs 25 people mostly scientists and this has grown steady over the last five years as a result of increasing commercial demand.
The BD Director will have experience of identifying commercial opportunities in drug discovery partnerships and deal-making with large pharmaceutical and biotech companies. An understanding of the science focus of the business is required for communicating the company’s technology to potential clients.
