Our client is a leading protein engineering company applying innovative technologies to unlock the power of proteins.

The Director, Business Development will be responsible for driving the growth in the European pharmaceutical and fine chemicals industry, with a focus on food, agrochemicals, flavour & fragrance and related markets through the development of collaborative research and development, license, and supply agreements. The role holder will develop and expand relationships with current key account customers and build new relationships and prospects to understand customer research and development, and commercialization needs.

The candidate will be an experienced, high calibre international business development and commercial development professional. The role requires several years of experience and a track record of success, as a high performing sole contributor, of closing deals with external customers that have included, not just fee for service, but value elements such as collaborative development and IP creation, with downstream milestones and royalties. Ideally, the candidate will have had experience of selling to leading organisations in their specific market as this will demonstrate the candidate understands the requirements and internal decision-making processes of major companies.

The role holder will have at least a master’s degree in organic chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry or related science required; PhD preferred. Experience in business development in life sciences required; established network in the relevant industries preferred with the proven ability to promote and sell products and services, including marketing, sales negotiation and sales control systems.

A background and thus understanding the field of protein engineering would be highly advantageous as would an existing rolodex in some or all of the following markets: – food, agrochemicals, flavour & fragrance and related markets is sought.

Experience in developing and implementing business strategy and a proven deal sheet with a track record of high consistent sales and meeting revenue targets is required.
